Many people think we are bone doctors, but we are actually nerve doctors. Nerves are the information superhighway that allows your brain to tell every organ, tissue, and gland exactly what to do. It’s the way that your natural ability to heal is communicated. That’s why in our office we choose to use technology that tells us exactly how your nerves are functioning. Areas of interference to this communication are called subluxations. Dr. Crain is focused on adjusting you to remove subluxations, reduce the stress to your nervous system and get you on your way to your health goals.
An adjustment is a specific light to moderate force by hand or with an instrument into any joint in the body. By normalizing the joint mechanics, we can take tension off the supporting muscles and reduce stress to the nervous system. While most people think of an adjustment taking place on the spine, they are equally effective in other areas of the body such as ankles, shoulders, and elbows.
There are many ways to adjust but Dr. Crain will use the technique that best suits the patient’s age, condition, and comfort level. These are some of the techniques used at Crain Chiropractic & Wellness:
Diversified Technique
A hands-on technique using a high velocity, low amplitude thrust. This usually results in the cavitation, or "popping sound", of the joint. Although this sound is often associated with chiropractic adjustments, it does not indicate the effectiveness of the adjustment.
Thompson Drop Technique
Also a hands on technique that uses a specialized table with individual drop pieces that reduces the amount of energy needed to adjust the spine.
Activator Technique
The activator is a hand-held, spring-loaded device that can deliver a quicker, but lighter thrust than what can be delivered by hand. This technique is sometimes used for children or those patients that do not desire manipulation by hand and in situations where manual adjustments are contraindicated.
